Hi Josh,
So in October and my then girlfriend purchased a house. We were both on the deed with myself being the primary owner. We also received the tax credit for new homeowners. Me being the primary owner received the $8k. Since then my gf and I have split and I want to sign over the ownership of the house. She plans on staying for the 3 yrs required for the tax credit, but what complications arise in transferring full ownership, and my name being the one the $8k was sent to?

Hi jmoulder!
Welcome to forums!
As you're not the owner of the property, there can be problems with the tax credit. In my opinion, you and your then girlfriend should contact the IRS and clarify the matter with them. They will be able to help you in this regard.
Feel free to ask if you've further queries.
