hi cliff! i have a question for you. i recently paid off our home. the problem is that my name is the only one on the deed. i would like to add my lifetime partner's name to the deed. how do i go about adding his name to the deed, just in case, something should happen to me, i want him to have ownership of it. i do have a will specifying that he should get the house. but i've been told to get a warranty deed change at the county clerks office or a quit deed? who is correct? what are the procedures? thanks
Hi edwardsot,
As the property is free and clear, you should use a warranty deed in order to add your lifetime partner to the property. You should contact a real estate attorney and get the deed drafted from him.
