Good morning,
I need some advice, and I am very confused. My divorce was final in Sept. 2010. I agreed to let my ex-husband "buy" my half of the house for 1/2 of the fair market value, minus 1/2 of what we still owed on the property. In April 2010, my ex-husband refinanced the house in his name only, and the amount we agreed on was given to him at that time and put in a savings account, pending the finalization of the divorce, which took longer than expected.
Now, he won't give me the money until my name is removed from the deed. He keeps doing nothing to help me get this done. My divorce lawyer said my ex-husband needs to take care of it and pretty much blew me off. I contacted the title company and they said I need to contact a lawyer to get this done. My ex is still doing nothing but holding on to money that I need badly and telling me he will do it when he has time.
Unfortunately, I wasn't wise enough to have my divorce lawyer put a time limit on when he had to turn the money over to me, so falling back on that isn't an option.
I read online (which I suppose can be dangerous) that Texas doesn't "recognize" quit-claim deeds, and property with a quit-claim may not be insurable? I don't know what to do now. Should I contact another / different attorney to take care of this? Can I take care of it myself, and if so how? I just want this done and over with, but I don't know what to do.
Thank you in advance! Any advice is appreciated!

Hi centexgal!
Welcome to forums!
I haven't heard of any such rule which states that quitclaim deeds are not legal in your state. You should contact a new lawyer and take his opinion in this matter. He will help you in handling the situation in a better manner.
Feel free to ask if you've further queries.
