Name on Deed not the mortgage

Posted on: 28th Dec, 2008 02:11 pm
My former husband passed away. My name is on the deed to the house but not on the mortgage. I have been paying the payments for the last 3 months in order to keep it for our oldest Daughter who will be having a child of her own soon. Will I have to quailfy for a new loan, or will the mortgage be transferred over to me?
hi mommasue!

welcome to forums!

the mortgage will not be transferred to you as far as i know. you will have to refinance the mortgage in your name. in order to refinance the mortgage, you will have to get qualified and approved. you can contact your current lender and check out the terms and conditions he is offering you. you can consult with other lenders as well.

this community also has a large numbers of lenders. you can also speak to them and seek a no obligation free mortgage consultation. this will also help you in comparing the market rates and terms.

feel free to ask if you have further queries.
