hi. my name is laura. i got married in 2003 and my ex husband had already bought an apartment. after that he bought a couple more and sold some of them. at the present he has 3 apartments and he cant pay for them anymore. only in one of them i co-signed with him and after a while i signed a quit claim deed. we divorce a couple of months ago and now i been sued for this property that we bought together. isn't the quit claim deed enough for me to be able to get off this sue????
thanks.
Hi laura monica!

Welcome to forums!

Quitclaim deeds are signed to transfer the property. By signing a quitclaim deed, you cannot get rid of the responsibilities of the mortgage. As you are co-signer of the mortgage, you will be held responsible for paying the dues. It would have been better if your ex-husband had refinanced the mortgage in his name. Refinancing the mortgage would have transferred the mortgage only in his name.

I think you should speak to your ex-husband regarding this and ask him to pay off the dues. Or else you will have to pay off the dues. If you don't, your credit will be badly affected. To know more about refinancing, check out the following link:
