We have a large family owning 88 acres of land which is not divided. We have problems every year with paying taxes because some do not want to pay. The land was inherited by four separate families. The land was never divided so I want to know if one family could sever their part from the other three families and how can we do it.
you'll need legal assistance. contact a local real estate attorney to get some advice there. it's not possible to separate a portion of the property without the assistance, knowledge and approval of the other owners, so there's going to have to be some negotiation between all of the factions. having a lawyer's advice and expertise is imperative.

melvia, your best bet is to speak with friends, co-workers, church leaders, other (uninvolved) family members to see if you can get recommendations for lawyers. once you have a few names, you can speak with those folk and see if one strikes your fancy.
