Grant Deed or Quit Claim?

Posted on: 06th Nov, 2007 05:41 pm
I need to get my ex partner off the title of my property.

We were in a same-sex relationship (not registered) -- even if we put zero transfer value will the city still come after me for transfer tax?

Also, what is a better way for me to do this? A quit claim or grant deed?
hi,

i think the zero transfer is only possible in case of divorced couples. you may have to pay transfer tax in your case.

you may use the quit claim deed for such transfer in property interest. your ex-partner has to sign the quit claim as the grantor transferring all his to you as the grantee.

Hi

"I need to get my ex partner off the title of my property."
This is very tough to do. If your ex-partner agrees to quitclaim then it is alright. Otherwise, you have to prove that the deed is not valid or you have signed the deed in pressure. So it will have legal intricacy. I think you should better talk to a lawyer in this regard.

Thanks,
Larry
