getting my name removed off of titles

Posted on: 03rd Dec, 2009 11:44 am
I got divorced three years ago, I left my ex the house and her vehicle. My name is still on both of them, even though in our divorce decree, I release all my rights to both the house and the car. Now she is about to loose the house to foreclosure and the vehicle is about to be repossed. I am remarried and because I am still on those titles, it is affecting my credit and my wife's credit. Why is my ex's credit affecting my current wife's credit? How do I get my name off of the titles?

it's not the titles you should be concerned about - it's the "notes". the actual contracts both you and her signed. that's what's impacting your credit. you're still responsible for them, regardless of who is on title. she needs to refinance them into her own name.

how do you know it's impacting your current wife's credit? the only way i can think of is by her credit containing your previous tradelines. if that's the case, write to the credit bureau's and have it corrected. the only tradelines of yours that should be on her credit report are the ones you've incurred since marriage.
