Is it possible to remove a name from the deed which lists a person as joint owner in survivorship? The person who added the name is deceased now.
As far as I know, you can sign a quitclaim deed and transfer your share of the property to someone else. This will help you remove your name from being a joint owner.
my deceased parents names are on my deed. How do I get their names removed? The names are not listed as Joint Tenants.
Hi egmom,
You will have to file an affidavit of heirship at the county recorder's office and get the property transferred in your name.
Thanks

My name and my husband's name are also on our deed. My parents were cosigners on our loan in 1980 and thus their names have appeared on our deed ever since. They have since passed away and we never had their names removed from our deed. We are now in the process of doing a living trust and will be putting our home in the trust. I've been told that we need to remove their names from our deed before we can transfer it to the trust.
