heir property

Posted on: 30th Jul, 2010 04:05 am
My grandmother passed in 1995. Her father left her some property. It is now heir property. No will was made. I have been paying the property taxes and want to sell the property. One little problem, my aunt and dad are no where to be found. I am not sure if they are living or dead because they live in another state. Can i do something so that i can sell the property so that i can at least get back what i have paid in taxes all these years?
Welcome megwalker,

Unless all the heirs agree to sale of the property, it would be difficult for you to sell it off. Moreover, if the property is still in your grandmother's name, then it needs to be transferred to heirs first. This will help in removing the deceased person from the property title. Once the property is transferred, then you and the other heirs will be able to sell it off.
