my mother passed away without a will the house she bought she is the only one on the deed. married signing separate my stepfather wants me and my brother to sign the house over to him. which he already has awoman living in the house with him which there is a little money left owing on the house my point is he is direspecting my mother because her name is still on the house.
Hi

If your deceased mother is still on the title, you and your brother do not own the house legally and thus, do not have the right to sign over the property to anyone. The first thing, you need to do is to file an affidavit of heirhship with the probate court so the title could be changed in your name. Once you have your name on the title, you become the legal owner of the property. Then you can keep the property to yourself or sign it over to your step father if you want to.
