hello...does anyone know how medicare law works here in illinois with respect to a quit claim deed?....my mom is seriously ill with cancer and i am not sure how much time she has left....she currently is covered by medicare as her primary insurance and is not receiving long term care at this time....she is scheduled for cancer surgery soon...she is half owner of the property and i am the other half owner via a quit claim deed that my father filed prior to his death in 2004...are there time limitations regarding this?...is a quit claim deed the right way to go?...would a life estate work in illinois?.......
Hi patrickalan,
As far as I know, transfer of property from your mother's name to your name may make her ineligible for the Medicare benefits. I would suggest you to contact an attorney who is an expert in the Medicare laws of your state and then take steps regarding transfer of property. As far as my knowledge is concerned, a ladybird deed (enhanced life estate deed) is not accepted in Illinois.
Thanks
