There was a family memeber who left over 20 acres to his family. My grandmother has paid the taxes on the property and now my father is paying the taxes each year for the past 30 years to keep it in the family. what can be done to now put the property in his name before he passes away. he is 85
Merely the fact the someone is paying the taxes of other's property does not fetch him/her the ownership rights. Here, the person who owns the property has to take a decision.
Hi sjennings!
Welcome to the forums!
If your father is an heir to that property, then he can file an affidavit of heirship at the county recorder's office and get the property transferred in his name. If that is not the case, he can go for the option of adverse possession.
Feel free to ask if you've further queries.
