Name on Title, not on Loan - Can other owner sue me?

Posted on: 20th Oct, 2009 04:24 pm
I bought a condo last year with my boyfriend. My name was on the title but never on the loan. I lived in the condo for 5 months and made all mortgage payments and condo fees during that time while he was living overseas.

We split up and asked me to take my name off the title. I did so in December of 2008. I never asked for any money. Now he is threatening to file a lawsuit against me, claiming I owe him $5000 for fees to have my name taken off the title.

Does he have any legal right to do this???
Everybody has the legal right to file a lawsuit, but that doesn't mean it's a reasonable lawsuit. Your name wasn't on the note, so you're not responsible for that part of any transaction. How did you get your name off Title? Was it by Quit Claim? That should have only cost $100.00 or so, $200 at the max.
