hey i am trinidadian and so is my husband
i am flying to america to get away from our abusive relationship
can i divorce him from america when i get there
and then return to trinidad after the divorce

You have to get divorce in your local area country courthouse.

I think you will have to get the divorce in Trinidad. Since you married as per the laws of Trinidad, the divorce will have to be granted according to the same laws. This is why it seems you cannot get the divorce in America. But I'd suggest you to consult a divorce attorney as he/she would be the best person to guide you in this regard.

janice, if you're coming to america to escape that abusive relationship, why would you go back to trinidad right after you've divorced your husband? wouldn't he be likely to still be there then?
