Child added to a deed

Posted on: 18th Dec, 2009 08:18 pm
I moved in with my father a year ago, after his wife abandoned the home. He has filed for divorce and his wife wants the equity in the home. The house was resently appraised and there is no equity. My father's health is failing and I'm afraid he may pass on before the divorce is final. My father has signed me duable power of attorney. Is there anyway I could be added to the deed of the home with my father's permission?
hi renee!

welcome to forums!

you can ask your father to sign a quit claim deed and add your name to the property. a real estate attorney will be able to help your father in drafting the quit claim deed. you can then notarize and record the deed in order to make it valid.

feel free to ask if you've further queries.
