do we need an attorney present when doing the quit claim deed?
Welcome Tamara,
It's always better to have an attorney present while you sign on a quitclaim deed. I would say that you get the deed drafted by the attorney. As because he's aware of the legal language and would be the right person to draft the deed as per your requirements.

An attorney is not required, however, there may be legal formalities in your local jurisdiction you have to meet.
Generally, the deed must be notarized, delivered to the grantee, and filed in county where the property is located. The deed form is basic and you could safely use one downloaded from the internet.
