i purchased my home with my husband prior to our getting married. my maiden name is on the deed, and now legally go by my married name. trying to refinance, but title company won't allow because my name on the deed does not match the name on the mortgage. how can i change my maiden name to my married name on our deed?
I live in the State of NJ
Hi joanntorre,
You and your husband will have to sign a quit claim deed where your maiden name and your husband's name would be listed as the grantor of the property. In place of the grantee's name, you will have to list your married name and your husband's name. Then, you need to record the deed at the county recorder's office.
