I have a friend in one of those ugly divorces. The mortgage is under the ex's name, but the court paper says my friend will assume responsibility for maintaining the house payments. The house went into forclosure, but the ex never transferred the mortgage over to my friend. Who is responsible for the mortgage?
Also, my friend signed a quitclaim deed over to the ex about a year ago. The ex just recently signed a quitclaim deed back to my friend. My friend then signed a quitclaim deed back to the ex. Who is responsible for paying the property taxes?

Hi Guest!
Welcome to forums!
As the mortgage is still in the name of the ex, s/he would be liable for the mortgage payments. As the property is sold off at a foreclosure sale, the ex will be liable for paying the balance dues. As far as the property deed is concerned, your friend has signed it over to his/her ex. In that case s/he will be liable for the property taxes, if any.
Feel free to ask if you've further queries.
