My Grandfather passed away in 1975 with no will , one uncle ( of three )lived on the property until 2006 when he passed away , In 1999 , he and his brother ( one of my other uncles ) argued over paying the property taxes , so I started paying them and have since paid them for over 12 years , only 2 uncles of the 8 children of my granddad is still alive , am I entitled to file a quitclaim deed on the property and have it put in my name ? Thank you . Mike

welcome hmdamron,

as the original property owner is deceased, you won't be able to use a quit claim deed in order to transfer the property in your name. if you want to get the property transferred in your name, you need to file an affidavit of heirship at the county recorder's office. moreover, the other heirs to the property will have to sign over their claims towards the property to you.
