quit claim deed

Posted on: 13th Jun, 2008 08:56 am
i signed a quit claim deed on two properties that were acquired durning marriage. i did this because i was told it would be easier for my husband to get a loan on the properties. we are now divorcing after 22 years. i am entitled to part of these properties?
Hi loriag.

Welcome to the forum.

I think you need to check the deed or go for a title search. If you are still on the deed then it is clear that you are also the owner of the property.

If you have quitclaimed the property to your husband then your name will not be on the deed. But if you have quitclaim to your husband and yourself then you should have a share of ownership of the property.

Feel free to ask if you have any further questions.

Best of luck,
Larry

if you have quit claimed your interest in the properties to your former husband, then you have relinquished all right to those properties.

You don't state which state you live in. In a divorce situation this may make a difference concerning property acquired during the marriage. There must be attorneys involved...consult one.
