Quitclaim deed?

Posted on: 26th Nov, 2008 05:53 am
I'm getting ready to purchase a home (financed in my name only) and am considering adding my domestic partner to the deed after closing by filing a quitclaim deed. If I do so, will his signature be required when I sell the house in the future?
Hi VABuyer,

If you add your domestic partner to the deed of the property, then he will also have equal rights to the property as you have. So when you will be selling the property, you will need his permission and also his signature. Moreover he can also demand a certain portion from the sale proceeds as well.

Thanks.
