quit claim deed/divorce

Posted on: 08th Jun, 2010 12:29 pm
when i got divorced a year ago, my ex-wife kept the house and i signed a quit claim deed for the house in which both of our names were on the mortgage. if my ex-wife did not refinance the house with her name on the mortgage only, am i still somehow responsible for the house if she is unable to make payments?
Hi Fred,

As your wife has not refinanced the mortgage in her name, you are still responsible for the mortgage payments. If your wife defaults the home loan payments, then the lender can come after you. Also, if the property is foreclosed upon, then it will have a negative affect on your credit report.

Thanks
