quit claim deed

my husband told me he got a better rate for our house mortgage and that we had to sign refinance papers. we met with the notary last night and she gave me the first paper to sign and told me it was the quit claim deed to change to the new finance company and i wouln't have to sign any other papers. i signed it, as she took the paper i saw that my husbands name was the only one on there. i asked if he would be the only one on the title and she said yes. stupid on my part . after all the papers were signed and we were going home my husband said 'don't be mad at me your name will be the only one on the title. i know what i am doing.' i know that i just signed my self out of a house. what happens now? i also signed a paper that said we file taxes together. what have i gotten myself into - still in shock
christine, you would be well-advised, in my opinion, to engage an attorney in this matter. obviously you were duped into signing what you've signed. whether the notary had any part in this duplicitous act is impossible to determine, but it's worth digging into.

check also with the lender in this situation, to determine what was discussed on that end. again, if you retain counsel, you can have that representative do the asking.

you've gotten yourself into a bad situation, but don't give up until you can pursue a favorable solution.
