My ex husband quitclaimed the deed to our home to me in our divorce. He is on the mortgage and I am not. A notice from the mortgage company states they will start foreclosure on 6/22/2010, if they didn’t get the 2 months payments he was behind. He has stopped paying the mortgage. I listed the house for sale. There is a buyer through a realty company who is talking to the mortgage company for a short sale. Since I am the only one on the deed with no financial responsibility. Can I have the mortgage company pay me $1000 in order to quitclaim the deed to the mortgage company? I understand some States are paying people behind on mortgages $2000 to vacate without damaging the property. I have not lived at the property for over 4 years. I have no interest in trying to get a loan to purchase the property as it is in need of numberous repairs.

Cash for keys option, as you've mentioned in your post, is available in some of the states. This option is given by the lenders to the borrowers. You can speak to the lender and check out if they will provide you with this option as you are the owner of the property. Giving this option to you will be completely the lender's discretion.
Feel free to ask if you've further queries.
