I owned a piece of property. My girlfriend and I decided to have a house built on the property. Because of time delays the house was not built, but the builder changed the property ownership to both of our names. My girlfriend and I have since gone our separate ways. I need to know if there is a simple form that I can get her to sign to remove her name from my property.

I want my name and responsibility removed from a property in summerfield fla. asap - not just the deed but the mortage too. please advise asap. i am hoping to divorce as well in the near future.
hi marilyn,
in order to remove your name from the deed, you will have to sign a quitclaim deed. once you sign the quitclaim deed, the deed needs to be notarized and recorded. then the person to whom you transferred the property (i.e the grantor) needs to refinance the property in his name. once the grantor refinances the property in his/her name, you will be released from your liability to pay the mortgage.
thanks
