i am in the process of a nasty divorce created by my wife. i am also the grantee of the quitclaim deed on her house. this was done for the purpose of a refinance of the house to do some renovations and i reside in florida and i'm 100% va disabled, the house i reside in can be exempt from paying property taxes. my question is, when we go to the mediation hearing, will i have any leverage being the grantee on this quitclaim deed
Hi ruben,

Welcome to this forum.

You are in a divorce process and that is caused by your wife. She had quitclaimed to you the property before for refinance- right. but I can't understand here " will I have any leverage being the grantee on this quitclaim deed". Can you please explain it a bit?

Before taking any steps consult with an attorney.

Best of luck,
Happy holidays

Are you the sole owner of the property or are you the co-owner along with your wife?

Do you make the monthly mortgage payments?

If the property is only in your name then I guess there won't be any problem. I think you should talk to the divorce attorney to know about the legal procedures.

Well Niicss, it seems that Ruben has taken 100% VA loan and most probably he is also getting VA disability compensation. However, the good thing is, he doesn't have to pay any property tax as it falls under some exemptions.

Ruben, can you please clarify whether the house which belonged to your wife is the same as that in Florida? Somehow I can sense that it is so, though I'm not absolutely sure about it. However, regarding the leverage, it's the attorney who can advice you the best.

Hope this helps...

God bless you.
