My mother is trying to qualify for long-term care for a nursing home. She recently has moved in with my wife and me and the home she resided in is now sitting unoccupied. If she signs a quit claim on the house in which our names appear as co-owners, with no money changing hands, will this set off any red flags for the long term care system?
Welcome rccordova,
If your mother transfers the property to you and your wife, then she may not remain eligible for the Medicaid benefits for the next 5 years. I would suggest you to contact an attorney and take his opinion before the transfer of property takes place.
