Quit Claim Deed and Mortgage Interest and Property Taxes

Posted on: 25th Jan, 2011 07:09 pm
my husband and i divorced in 2010. i got the house in the divorce settlement. he signed a quit claim deed on the house, and i refinanced the house in my name only. my question is, is he entitled to deduct any of the mortage interest paid while we still jointly owned the house for the first half of the 2010? or i am entitled to the entire mortgage interest deduction, because of the quit claim deed?
Welcome Alison,

There are high chances that you will be able to deduct the entire mortgage interest paid for the year 2010. Nevertheless, it will be a better option if you can contact a tax adviser and take his opinion in this matter.
