Hello. Are there legal ramifications if a persons name is misspelled on a legal document, such as a quitclaim deed? I noticed that my husband's name is misspelled on a quitclaim deed that my mother-in-law gave to my husband and his brother. Also, my brother-in-law says if you pay taxes on a property for 7 years in a row, you own that piece of property? Is this correct?
Hi cjfondren!
You will have to ask your mother-in-law to issue a fresh deed with the correct spelling of your husband's name in it.
As far as your second question is concerned,I haven't heard anything of that sort. I would like to know which state you live. This will help me to give you better information.
Thanks.

Hi cjfondren,
I agree with James. Your mother-in-law will have to sign a new deed with the correct spelling of your husband's name and then record it in the county recorder's office. As far as your second question is concerned, I haven't heard anything of that sort.
Thanks,
Jerry
