My brother and I have equal shares in a rental property so that means that both our names are on the deed of the house. He nows wants to give me his half so he wants to take his name of the deed. Do I need to go through a lawyer to get that change or can I do it myself?

your brother can use a quit claim deed in order to transfer the property to you. in order to draft a quit claim deed, your brother can contact an attorney. after the deed is filled out, you'll have to notarize it and record it at the county recorder's office.
