my ex-husband and i divorced 17 yrs ago. i signed quit claim deed. but it appears my name is still on title. does that mean i am responsible for taking over house payments? my ex has 2 grown children (one is mine) and one minor 17(also mine) and my ex passed away last week with no will. or do i sign over to kids when they sell house?
If you signed a quitclaim deed, you no longer have any interest in the property. You say you are still "on title". What do you mean by that? If you mean the tax assessor's office, you probably must notify them of a title change. It also means your ex probably did not record the deed. See if you can find the deed and record it with your county recorder's office.
If your ex passed away, the house will go to his heirs by intestate succession, probably to the kids. It is different in every state, so check with a probate attorney for advice.
