i was told that the quit claim deed does not have to be prepared by an attorney as long as i have it notarized

i agree with that assessment mamma. you want to be sure you are thorough, of course, in preparing it.
it will also benefit you to take a journey to the local land records, to ensure that there aren't any liens sitting out there that you're not already aware of.
