Property taxes on a Quitclaim deed

Posted on: 24th Feb, 2010 11:35 am
I'm living in a House in which the legal onwer is a relative but I have been taking care of the mortgage payments from day one. I can't get a credit for this house on my own because I have a bad score. If she transfer the house to my name using a QuitClaim deed, can I claim any property taxes back when I do my declaration to the IRS since I have been paying for the property taxes too??
Hi Guest,

As your name is not on the mortgage you won't be able to claim the mortgage interest payments on your taxes. If the owner transfers the property to you now, I don't think you would be able to claim the previously paid property interest on your taxes.
