property tax credit in a divorce.

Posted on: 15th Nov, 2010 11:49 am
In March of 2010, my spouse and I divorced. We did a quit claim to transfer the house in my name. We split the property tax expense for 2009, paying half in January of 2010 and the other half in July of 2010. Do we both get to claim half of the taxes or does just the person who owned the home at the end of the year get to claim all of it?
Hi dlbonner!

Welcome to forums!

As far as I know, the person whose name is mentioned on the property will be able to claim the property tax deductions while filing their yearly taxes.

Feel free to ask if you've further queries.
