Quick claim deed regarding raw land

Posted on: 13th Oct, 2009 05:04 pm
My father whom died in 2003 left a family trust leaving five siblings raw land. I no longer which to participate in the ownership of this land. The land is paid in full except for yearly property taxes. If I file a quick claim deed are there any legal ramifications down the road? I want to leave my percent of the land to all of the other siblings. Will I be responsible after filing a quick claim deed for later property taxes (if not paid) etc. I want to make sure I will be free and clear of this estate.

Thank you,
Debbie
Hi Debbie,

You can definitely file a quitclaim deed and transfer the property to your siblings. Once you do so, you won't be liable for the property in any way. However, if the earlier property taxes are due, then your siblings may ask you to pay a part of it.
