New Marriage/Existing Mortgage for one partner

Posted on: 09th Mar, 2010 08:50 am
hi - I have a house in my name only and just got married. I want to add my husband's name to the mortgage and deed. I am making payments to a bank and everything is up to date with no issues whatsoever. What is the easiest way to add him to the mortgage and deed of the house so that everything about the house is in his name also? Thank you for any help with this!!
hi margaret,

you can add your husband's name to the property title through a quit claim deed. you will sign the deed as grantor transferring the title to both you and your husband. you can also list your names as joint tenants with the right of survivorship. when one of you is deceased, the other will get the full ownership of the property eliminating the requirement of probate. to add him to the mortgage, you will have to refinance the existing loan.
