how long after a quit claim deed is signed does it have to be recorded

Posted on: 07th Mar, 2010 06:21 pm
i live in pekin, il my mom signed a quit claim deed to my sister and i 10 years ago, now we found out it was not recorded at the recorders office. it was drawn up by a lawyer, is it deeded to us or not?
Hi nlewis!

Welcome to forums!

If the property deed is not recorded at the county recorder's office, then it won't be considered as a valid deed. I would suggest you to speak to your attorney and check out whether or not you would be able to record it now. If the deed gets recorded now, then you would be considered as the owner of the property.

Feel free to ask if you've further queries.
