I have a quitclaim deed on a tax acquired property, the town did try to contact the mortgagee and were not successfull. I paid $5,000, mortgagee redeem the property, what happen to my 5,000 and paid taxes on this property.

If the mortgagee had taken over the property, then you will get back the money that you've paid for the property. You should contact the town and ask them to pay back the monies that you've paid them. You can even ask the mortgagee to reimburse the taxes that you've paid to the tax department.
