Adding name to deed

Posted on: 23rd Feb, 2008 08:15 am
My mom and dad own some land. My father has pased away. She wants to remove my dad's name to replace it with mine. At present, mom is at a convelesant hospital and wants to keep the property in the family. Can a quickclaim deed do this? A prompt response would be appreciated.
Did he have a will?

How did your mother and father hold title?

If they are on the title of the property then your mother can use quit claim to replace your father with you.

Hi fredricjp,

Welcome to the forum.

I think your mother can use a quitclaim deed to add you on the deed. If it is a mortgaged property then you should inform the lender about you father's death and take his consent before adding you on the deed.

You should take help from an attorney in this regard.

Best of luck,
Larry
