Some time ago I refinanced my home and added my fiance (at the time) to the deed through a quit claim. We are now splitting and I feel I have more rights to sole ownership of the home because my name is the only one on the mortgage and I have paid all the mortgage bills. Do I have more rights than her since I quit claimed her to the deed?
Hi R.S.
Though you have paid for the mortgage, as your fiance's name is on the property deed she can claim her rights to property. If you have given her equal ownership rights to the property, then she can claim half of the property from you.
Thanks.
