Quit claim deed

Posted on: 16th Jan, 2008 05:20 am
my maternal grandmother quit deeded her house to me, however i have the same name as my mother. the quit claim deed has my/our name on it accompanied with the status of 'single' (which i am and my mother is not) but lists my mother's address. would the status 'single' prevent lawyers/hold up in court if my mother attempts to say that the quit claim deed was to her and not me?
Is your mother contesting the property?
Do you have a 3rd party who was witness to this and knows who property was intended for?
If you guys cant resolve this peacefully then I would talk to the lawyer.

Hi Anna,

Welcome to the forum.

Eugene has asked very important questions and you need to answer these first so that we can help you.

You have said "but lists my mother's address." So how can you say that the property was quitclaimed to you?

If you can't resolve the matter, better contact an attorney.

Best of luck,
Larry

No. You should not have same names. I would see about changing my name to "jr." or something (do women do that?).

Otherwise, consider re-doing the deed to "Jane Smith, mother, conveys to Jane Smith, daughter".

I would have the address corrected and add something that specifies that the home is to go to you. Do you have to worry about your mother saying htat the home is hers? Have you talked to her about this?
