My domestic partner and I currently have a mortgage loan on our home which we live in. He wants to re-finance the mortgage at a lower interest and wants the mortgage loan to be listed in his name only. However, he has informed me that I will be listed on the property deed. Is this possible?
Hi couponqueen,

As far as I know, it is possible for you to be listed on the deed whereas both of your names can be on the property deed. However, state laws may vary and thus I would suggest you to speak to your attorney before taking any step.

Thanks

it's a possibility, yes. what's the purpose for this? is a refinance a better likelihood if he is the sole borrower?

George aks the question: What would be the purpose?? and we need to know the answer to that to better answer your question.

If you conribute nothing to the mortgage payment or if your credit is such that it makes the rate worse for refinancing, it is possible to both be on the deed and only one of you on the mortgage.

If you are not on the mortgage, you do not get to deduct any mortgage interest from your income taxes becasue you are not on the mortgage.
