If I am correct I don't have to have a lawyer present like at the original loan closing. So my question is should I have one?

hi aazzanine,

in order to refinance your mortgage, you do not require a lawyer. if you have equity in your property, then you can apply for a refinance by contacting your present lender. however, the lender will check your income as well as your credit scores before giving you a mortgage.
