Can I get deeded off my exhusbands mortgage?

Posted on: 24th Feb, 2009 10:50 am
I went through a divorce a few years ago and I am no longer on the deed on my exhusbands house. He cannot refi right now, is there any way that I can get my name off the mortgage so that it won't come up on my credit report? I was told I could get deeded off but I don't know how?
hi cindycassidy ,

it seems that you are not on the title to the house, but your name still appears on the mortgage. right? well, in such a situation refinance is the best option to take your name off the mortgage. but if that is not posssible, then you can consider the option of a novation agreement. you can also request the lender to remove your name from the loan since you no longer hold any title to the property.

Welcome cindycassidy,

Your name is already removed from the property deed. Your husband now needs to refinance the mortgage in his name. This will remove your name from the mortgage. Novation is also a process to remove your name from mortgage but lenders prefer refinance over novation.
