I need to know if I qualify for the Homestead exemption in Texas. I have a home which my mother in law is living in. She is helping with payments as I actually live half an hour away to attend college. Could I still qualify for the Homestead exemption for tax purposes? I have established the home as my primary residence and my driver’s license shows that the residence is my address. I will be moving back in future.
In order to qualify for a Homestead exemption in any state, the property should be your primary residence and you should be staying in that property. In your case, as this does not happen, I think it will be difficult for you to get the exemption.
Welcome Guest,
You may speak to the concerned Department in this matter and take their help. They may let you know whether or not you qualify for the homestead exemption.
