Husband and I are currently refi our primary home in Wisconsin. TO-BE mortgage company approved loan in error without my (wife) information. They have stated that they will put me on the title of the home. In Wisconsin am I responsible for the mortgage even if I am not listed as a borrower? What would happen in the event of my husbands death (I do not work out-side the home)? What would happen in the event of divorce?
Hi tcutre,
If your name is not mentioned on the mortgage docs, then you're not responsible for paying the mortgage dues. The lender won't be able to come after you if your husband is unable to pay the dues. In case of your husband's death, if the dues are not paid off, then the lender can foreclose the property. After your husband is deceased, you can refinance the loan in your name and pay off the mortgage dues in order to save the property.
Thanks
