Zoning is a system related to land use regulation. It designates the permitted use of land on the basis of mapped zones that separates a part of the community from another. This regulation falls under police power rights which the government can exercise over real property.
This includes regulations of those activities that are acceptable on particular piece of land like, the densities at which these activities can be performed, the height of the building, how close a building can be from the edge of the land, the space occupied by the landscape, the quantity of paved space and the and how the minimum parking space.

I want to start building my home as soon as possible, but I have heard I need to take permission regarding zoning. Is it going to take a lot of time, because I need to shift in a few months? Can you tell me how long this zoning takes?
Hi Sara,
Welcome to MortgageFit Forums.
Generally this process takes about 4 to 6 months. Most of the time is required for assessing the projects environmental impacts and provide notice of the public hearings.
Thanks,
Jessica
