Do I own my home ?

Do I own my home ?

My Common Law husband of nine years, signed and had notarized, a Quit Claim deed, leaving me the home we lived in. He passed in 2012. My name (different from his) was NOT on the loan, but my name is registered with the county as me being the owner (via Quit Claim deed). I am in touch with the mortgage company that holds the loan, I want to know if I a liable for the loan. Thank you for your time.

As you are not on the loan, then you'll not be held liable for its repayment. But the lenders will foreclose the house on charges of loan default. If you want to keep the house, then you need to start making the monthly payment immediately. Make sure the lenders include your name in the mortgage before making any payment.

The property is responsible for the loan so what was shared above is accurate you either start paying or they sale the home to get their money back You are not obligated to make that payment but eventually they will foreclose and you will lose the home   Good Luck Brian Barnes Loan Officer Loans if all 50 states Brian@Aimwithfocus.com
