I'm not quite understanding, frankly.  If your monthly obligation is as minimal as you noted, why is it that you think they'll grant you a modification - with or without a lawyer?  Honestly, if I was setting the rules for BofA, I'd work with those who couldn't afford to make payments long before I'd work with someone whose debt obligation was so minimal a percentage of income. I don't think you'll do any better or worse with legal assistance in trying to get your modification.  The documents needed remain the same in either event, and your efforts to provide what's needed ought to be sufficient by themselves.
